Back-to-school event aims to educate Arkansas families on insurance marketplace

August 15th, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, August 15, 2013

Gravette, AR – Area residents and families are invited to attend a free back-to-school celebration on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the OCH of Gravette parking lot (1101 S. Jackson St.).

The event will feature free food, games, prizes and health insurance marketplace education for parents. Paul Taylor, CEO and chief legal counsel of OCH will provide community members with an overview of what’s going on with the state’s health insurance marketplace and share what local residents can expect this October regarding enrollment in the private option.

“We have made a commitment to provide Northwest Arkansas residents information about the upcoming insurance enrollment,” says CEO Paul Taylor. “This back-to-school event provides the community an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon with their family, while giving them a chance to ask questions about healthcare insurance in a low-stress environment.”

OCH is also hosting workshops with certified application counselors this fall to help residents prepare for October enrollment. These will take place at the Gravette hospital on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.; Thursday Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. Community members may call Morgan Black (417) 344-6464 for more information.

“Many individuals in the Gravette area and surrounding communities do not currently have insurance,” says Morgan Black, communications coordinator. “Through the state’s health insurance, they may now qualify. We want to help residents find out if they do, provide them information and help assist them in the process of becoming insured.”

Taylor recently completed his Medicaid Exchange Q&A tour throughout Southwest Missouri educating residents on how the actions of the state legislature this fall will impact employers, the local economy and individuals. He has been featured as a guest columnist in Kaiser Health News, a nonprofit news organization featuring coverage of health care policy and politics. He was also featured in Becker’s Hospital Review and Modern Healthcare, publications covering healthcare business and policy news, advocating healthcare reform.
