New objective ADHD test now available at OCH Northside Clinic in Springfield

February 19th, 2015

Springfield – Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 6.7 million children and adolescents and 14.9 million adults in the United States. Early identification and treatment are key. OCH providers can help; thanks to a cutting edge new test now available at the OCH Northside Behavioral Medicine Clinic in Springfield.

The Quotient® ADHD Test is a noninvasive sit-down computer test that objectively measures brain functions related to ADHD symptoms. OCH is the only hospital in the area to offer it at this time.

“More often than not, adults tend to quickly blame ADHD as a cause of a child’s inattention or misbehavior,” says Karen Barrand, clinic manager. “However, that may not always be the case. This objective test takes the guesswork out of it. It can rule out ADHD as a diagnosis and bring to light other issues that the family might otherwise not have known about such as bullying, depression, medication issues, or something else that may need to be addressed instead.”

This test is FDA-cleared to measure an individual’s hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention as an aid in the assessment of ADHD. It takes 15 or 20 minutes and utilizes a motion tracking system to measure head movements while the patient attempts to focus on a computerized test. A analysis report is available immediately after the test is complete. This baseline analysis helps healthcare providers determine a treatment plan with the option of additional tests to track progress and treatment goals.

Since beginning this month, OCH has administered 33 tests and scheduled four a day at the clinic.

The OCH Northside Behavioral Medicine team is lead by psychiatrist Salvador Ceniceros, MD and includes Melissa Belles, ANP-BC; Ashlee Rossner, FNP-CA. Joe Cohn, DO (Internal Medicine) and Jason Glass, PsyD (Psychology). Over the past two years, this team has grown from a single-provider practice, to an integrated behavioral care team seeing more than 1,000 patients a month.

For more information, contact Karen Barrand by phone 417-837-4066.
